Greetings and Welcome to the Ohio State University Telecommunications department Web Pages. Around the Columbus campus, we are better known as UNITS, an acronym for the University Network Integrated Telecommunications System.
We are a group of only about sixty people but at some level we touch all of Ohio State's students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and supporters. We aggregate, facilitate, provision, manage, and otherwise provide a wide array of facilities-based audio, video, and data communications services.
Our goal is to serve the University community as a strategic resource and a value-added partner. Our service philosophy will include the following key principles:
The UNITS organization operates:
As a Customer-Driven "Learning Organization"
Utilize customer feedback to achieve Continuous Quality Improvement
Involve the "Whole System" (Customers, Suppliers and Employees) in process improvement
Establish individual and team goals
To Preserve and Enhance Technology Resources
Early adopter of proven technology
Search out Beta test opportunities with technology vendors
Facilitate the convergence of voice and data
To Provide Cost-Competitive Services
Find ways to continually reduce cost and/or add value
Continually expand customer/services base to lower unit costs
A final note:
Purveyors of communications technology must strive to make it virtually invisible to the end user. The technology must enable; it must not be an end in itself but rather a means to some worthy end. We hope you find the information provided at the UNITS Web Site useful and we welcome your comments. Please visit often to learn of new services and industry information.
