UNITS Payroll Deduction Service

Payroll Deduction Service is now available as one more way you can automatically pay your personal UNITS bill each month. If you don't have a checking account or a major credit card, this payment option may be right for you. UNITS Payroll Deduction Service is offered in conjunction with The Ohio State University's Office of Human Resources and is available as a free service to all OSU faculty and staff. This payment option is not available to OSU students.

How the Service Works
Our Payroll Deduction Service automatically deducts the set dollar amount you stipulate from your OSU paycheck and applies it to your UNITS bill each month. When you sign up for this payment option, the same dollar amount is automatically deducted from your paycheck each month until you notify us to either change the amount or cancel the service. It is important to note, your payroll deduction is not a pre-tax deduction, and therefore, does not affect the amount of taxes owed and withheld from your OSU paycheck. Additional terms and conditions apply to this service.

Your payroll deduction amount is moved from your OSU paycheck to your UNITS account on the first day of each month. If you are paid monthly, the deduction amount will appear on the paycheck you receive at the end of the same month. If you are paid biweekly, the entire amount of your deduction will be withdrawn From the second paycheck you receive each month.

The deduction will appear on your paycheck as "UNITS Bill Pay," and will show the amount deducted. On your UNITS billing statement, the payroll deduction will appear as "Payroll Deduction Service" under the Payment section.

Another optional feature of Payroll Deduction is our monthly e-mail notification service. Each e-mail will state the amount of your payroll deduction and the date it occurred. You will receive the e-mail notice on the first day of each month. All customers using this service will receive the e-mail notice on the same date, which cannot be changed. You can request this free, monthly notice when you sign up for the Payroll Deduction Service.You will also need to provide the e-mail address to which you want the notices on the sign-up form.

Determining your Payroll Deduction Amount
The payroll deduction amount you designate must be in whole dollars with a minimum of $1.00. The deduction amount cannot change automatically to match the variable amount of your UNITS bill each month. (This is due to restrictions in the university's payroll system.) Therefore, you must select a payroll deduction amount that best covers your UNITS bill each month.

You are responsible for paying your UNITS bill in full upon receipt each month. If your payroll deduction amount is less than the amount owed on your UNITS statement, you will need to make an additional payment to cover the difference using one of our other payment options. If your payroll deduction amount is more than the amount owed on your UNITS bill, the amount of the overpayment will be applied to your following month's bill. UNITS will not issue credits for over payments.

You are encouraged to change the amount of your payroll deduction if your payroll deduction payment is considerably more or less than the amount you owe on a regular basis. As noted earlier, the payment deduction amount remains the same each month, until you notify us to change or cancel the service.

Signing Up for UNITS Payroll Deduction
Before signing up for this payment option, please read the terms and conditions of this service. You must complete a Payroll Deduction Authorization Form to sign up and use this service. You will need to enter a payroll deduction amount and the month and year you want the deduction to start. You will also need to provide your OSU Employee ID, which is required in order to establish your payroll deduction service through OSU's payroll system. Completed forms should be mailed or faxed, to our office. (Click here for UNITS contact information.) Once we have received your form, please allow 3-5 business days for us to process your request. Please allow an additional 2-4 business days for your request to reach us if you send it through the mail.

Changing or Canceling your Payroll Deduction
You may change your payroll deduction amount or cancel this service at anytime. To change or cancel your deduction, you must complete another Payroll Deduction Authorization Form and return it to our office. Once we have received your change or cancellation request, please allow 3-5 business days for request to be processed. If you send it via mail, you should allow an additional 2-4 business days for it to reach us.
