Basic Cable TV for OSU Off-campus Columbus Housing Properties

OIT has been contracted by Student Life to deliver Basic Cable TV services to residents living in the following OSU-managed, off-campus Columbus properties: 67 E. 15th Avenue, 94 E. 15th Avenue, 237 E. 17th Avenue, 1934 Indianola Avenue and 1943 Waldeck Avenue. OIT delivers and supports Basic (Analog) Cable TV, while OIT's contracted supplier, Time Warner Cable, offers and supports several Optional Digital Cable Services that can be ordered.

Basic (Analog) Cable TV

Basic (Analog) Cable is a standard service in your residence and is provided to you as part of your housing contract with Student Life. This means you do not need to order Basic (Analog) Cable service, and you will not receive a separate monthly bill for the service. Your Basic (Analog) Cable Line-up* offers over 70 channels including all the major networks, the Big Ten Network, ESPN, MTV, Cartoon Network and more!*

*NOTE: The channel line-up is subject to change.

Basic (Analog) Cable Setup:
Cable outlets in the common living area and each bedroom are already active with Basic (Analog) Cable Service when you move in.* You must provide your own jumper or coaxial cable to connect your equipment to the outlets. Your television and video equipment must be cable-ready to receive all Basic (Analog) Cable channels available. If your equipment is not cable-ready, you will not be able to receive all of the channels available.**

*NOTE: Theft, willful damage, alteration or destruction of cable television equipment and/or unauthorized reception of cable programming are prohibited by federal and state laws, and university policy. Violators are subject to state, federal and university criminal penalties. OIT does periodic checks in these locations and will remove any illegal cable television connections and equipment found.

**NOTE: Some cable-ready televisions may only have the capacity to receive up to the first 36 channels. Older cable-ready televisions may also require a converter box to reach any channel higher than channel 36. You should refer to your equipment manuals, or to the place of purchase to determine whether your television, or video equipment is cable-ready.

Free (In-the-Clear) Digital Channels

Residents with Basic (Analog) Cable Service in these locations also have access to several Free (In-the-Clear) Digital Channels that broadcast at digital (HD/SD) quality. To receive and view these Free (In-the-Clear) Digital Channels, your TV must have a digital tuner that will receive and decode CATV QAM signals. If you have a digital monitor or a TV that does not have the appropriate built-in tuner, you will need to purchase a CATV QAM digital tuner/receiver from a local electronics store.* Digital tuners/receivers are not currently available from OIT. Residents that have upgraded digital or HD cable services through Time Warner Cable, and have either a digital or HD receiver, will receive most or all of these channels on different channel numbers.

*NOTE: Depending on the manufacturer of the digital tuner purchased, you may need to enter each free digital channel number into memory manually or you may be able to do a scan of the channels and then save them into your equipment’s memory. In addition, QAM tuners that only retrieve CATV frequencies and ATSC tuners will NOT work; therefore, these tuners are not recommended. If these types of tuners are used, they may not properly retrieve the free digital channels available. Check your equipment manuals from the manufacturer to verify the type of tuner and its capabilities. OIT may bill a customer for time and labor if an OIT technician does a site visit per a customer request and it is determined that the customer’s equipment is the cause of the problem.

Optional Digital Cable Services

Time Warner Cable offers residents in these OSU off-campus Columbus properties a number of optional Digital Cable Services such as Digital and HD channels, Premium Movie channels, On Demand channels, digital and HD set-top boxes, Digital Video Recorders (DVRs), and more. All of these optional Digital Cable Services must be ordered directly from and installed by Time Warner Cable. For more information and pricing, or to order optional Digital Cable Services, visit Time Warner Cable's special web site for OSU residents or contact Time Warner Cable Sales at 614-481-5320 and select option 2 to establish a new Time Warner Cable Account.
