Cable TV for OSU Off Campus Columbus Properties

OIT has been contracted by Student Affairs to deliver cable TV services to residents living in the following OSU-managed, off-campus Columbus properties: 67 E. 15th Avenue, 94 E. 15th Avenue, 237 E. 17th Avenue, 1934 Indianola Avenue and 1943 Waldeck Avenue. OIT delivers and supports Basic Cable TV, while OIT's contracted supplier Time Warner Cable, offers and supports several optional digital services that can be ordered.

Basic Cable TV

Basic Cable is a standard service in your residence and is provided to you as part of your housing contract with Student Affairs. This means you do not need to order Basic Cable service, and you will not receive a separate monthly bill for the service. Your Basic Cable Line-up* offers over 70 channels including all the major networks, ESPN, MTV, Cartoon Network and more!*

*NOTE: The channel line-up is subject to change.

Basic Cable Setup:
Cable outlets in the common living area and each bedroom are already active with Basic Cable Service when you move in.* You must provide your own jumper cable to connect your equipment to the outlets. Your television and video equipment must be cable-ready to receive all Basic Cable channels available. If your equipment is not cable-ready, you will not be able to receive all of the Basic Channels available.**

*NOTE: Theft, willful damage, alteration or destruction of cable television equipment and/or unauthorized reception of cable programming are prohibited by federal and state laws, and university policy. Violators are subject to state, federal and university criminal penalties. OIT does periodic checks in these locations and will remove any illegal cable television connections and equipment found.

**NOTE: Some cable-ready televisions may only have the capacity to receive up to the first 36 channels. Older cable-ready televisions may also require a converter box to reach any channel higher than channel 36. You should refer to your equipment manuals, or to the place of purchase to determine whether your television, or video equipment is cable-ready.

Free (In-the-Clear) Digital Channels

Residents with Basic Cable Service in these locations also have access to several Free (In-the-Clear) Digital Channels that broadcast at digital (HD/SD) quality. To receive and view these Free (In-the-Clear) Digital Channels, your TV must have a digital tuner that will receive and decode CATV QAM signals. If you have a digital monitor or a TV that does not have the appropriate built-in tuner, you will need to purchase a CATV QAM digital tuner/receiver from a local electronics store.* Digital tuners/receivers are not currently available from OIT. Residents that have upgraded digital or HD cable services through Time Warner Cable, and have either a digital or HD receiver, will receive most or all of these channels on different channel numbers.

*NOTE: Depending on the manufacturer of the digital tuner purchased, you may need to enter each free digital channel number into memory manually or you may be able to do a scan of the channels and then save them into your equipment’s memory. In addition, QAM tuners that only retrieve CATV frequencies and ATSC tuners will NOT work; therefore, these tuners are not recommended. If these types of tuners are used, they may not properly retrieve the free digital channels available. Check your equipment manuals from the manufacturer to verify the type of tuner and its capabilities. OIT may bill a customer for time and labor if an OIT technician does a site visit per a customer request and it is determined that the customer’s equipment is the cause of the problem.

Big Ten Network Channels

OIT has installed a DirecTV dish and receiver and an A/B switch in these OSU, off-campus locations for the sole purpose of providing residents with access to the Big Ten Network channels.* This programming is in addition to the standard cable TV services delivered by OIT and Time Warner Cable. The Big Ten Network channels are only available in the common living room area of each location. No other programming is available via the DirecTV equipment provided.

Big Ten Network Viewing Instructions:**
To view OIT/Time Warner Cable Channels:

  1. Flip the A/B switch to the “A” position and select the channel you want to view

To view the Big Ten Network Channels:

  1. Flip the A/B switch to the “B” position
  2. Turn the TV “ON” and tune the TV to channel “3
  3. Turn the DirecTV receiver “ON” and select one of the following Big Ten Network Channels to view:
    • Channel 218

*NOTE: The A/B switch, satellite receiver and dish, and related cable TV and satellite equipment in this location are the property of OIT, OIT’s contracted vendors, and The Ohio State University. Theft, willful damage, alteration or destruction of cable television and satellite equipment or unauthorized reception of cable or satellite programming is prohibited by federal and state laws, and university policy. Violators are subject to state, federal and university criminal penalties.  OIT makes periodic checks in all university-owned and managed buildings; OIT will remove any illegal connections and equipment found.

**NOTE: The viewing instructions to toggle between the Big Ten Network channels and the Time Warner Cable Basic channels do not apply to residents living in 67 E. 15th Avenue. Contact OIT at 688-HELP if further assistance is needed.
