High Speed Data Service for Internet Access
at South Campus Gateway Apartments
OIT is a department of The Ohio State University and the contracted provider for high speed data (Internet), telephone,and cable TV services to residents living in South Campus Gateway Apartments.
The university's High Speed Data (HSD) service for Internet access is provided as part of your South Campus Gateway Apartment contract. The switched, 100 Mbps data connection is symmetrical (100 Mbps in both directions) and lightening fast. All data outlets in each South Campus Gateway apartment are already active with HSD service upon moving in.
HSD Setup
In order to connect to the HSD service, you must provide your own personal computer, an ethernet card, and a network cable. Simply run the network cable between your computer and the data jack on the wall outlet.
Using HSD
You will need to log into OSU’s network to use any of your HSD services (e.g., Internet, e-mail, instant messaging, etc.). All Gateway residents must read and comply with the university's Policy on Responsible Use of Computing Resources. Upon opening a browser, the screen will immediately redirect to OIT's South Campus Gateway Network Authentication splash page where you will be asked to enter your OSU Internet username (Name.N) and password. If you do not have a username or password or need help setting up your service, contact our IT Service Desk or call 688-HELP (4357) during office hours.* Once you have logged in, you will see a “Welcome to the OSU network” screen. Within approximately ten seconds, your screen will redirect back to the original browser screen.
*NOTE: Non-OSU residents living in South Campus Gateway will need a Guest Account to access the university's HSD service. Guest Accounts can be requested by contacting OIT at 688-HELP.
Repairs
If you need to request a repair for your HSD service, visit us online, or call our IT Service Desk at 688-HELP (4357) during office hours. You will also need to complete a “Permission to Enter Form.” This form notifies your apartment manager that you requested a repair and it gives our technician permission to access your apartment (if needed) to complete the repair. You can complete the Permission Form online or by going to your apartment manager’s office.
