Students Living in Graduate,
Family, & Non-traditional Housing
OIT - Telecommunications & Networking offers local telephone service to residents living in university-owned housing. Local telephone service includes touch-tone dialing, and unlimited free local and on-campus calls. Local service is already installed in Jones Tower rooms, but must be ordered in Buckeye Village and other university-owned housing apartments. In all of these locations, you will need to provide your own telephone equipment.
Jones Tower
Local telephone service is provided in your room as part of your room contract with Student Affairs. If you are a resident in Jones Tower, you need to notify us with your room assignment, but you do not need to order local telephone service and will not receive a monthly bill from our office for local service. However, if you order any other features or services from our office, you will be billed for the related installation and monthly service fees.
Buckeye Village and Other OSU Property Management Locations
Local telephone service is an optional feature in Buckeye Village and other nontraditional housing locations. If you are a resident in one of these locations and you want local telephone service, you must contact our Customer Service Department to place an order.
Local telephone service costs $16.15 per month.
The installation fee, which will appear on your first bill, is $34.00.
Equipment Needed
You will need to provide your own telephone equipment. Our office provides you with touch-tone dialing service. A touch-tone telephone will work best. Telephones that have pulse or rotary type dialing are not recommended since University Long Distance and some features will not work from rotary or pulse type telephones. If you have questions about which type of telephone equipment will work in your room or apartment, call Customer Service at 614-688-HELP (4357) for assistance.
There are many local dealers of telephone sets if you need to purchase a telephone. See the Ameritech Yellow Pages under "Telephone Equipment and Systems-Dealers."
NOTE: Cordless telephones will work within most residence halls if they are programmed correctly. We recommend a 900mhz phone for best results. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for setting the appropriate frequency.
To order local telephone service and any of these features, contact customer service at the numbers/e-mail address at the bottom of this page.
