The Administrative Calling Card

Need to place long distance business calls from off campus locations or when traveling on university business? The Administrative Calling Card is the answer. The Administrative Calling Card is an extension of the Long Distance Authorization Code and enables you to place domestic and international long distance calls from most touchtone telephones located in the 50 States and Canada. If you travel abroad and need to place calls from international locations, contact us about alternative calling card options.

How the Administrative Calling Card Works

The calling card works similar to an Auth Code, enabling you to place calls through the university’s system at the same low rates. When ordering the Administrative Calling Card, you will receive a printed card that includes your own departmental six-digit Authorization Code (Auth Code) and basic dialing instructions. If you don’t already have a departmental Auth Code, one will be created for you when you order an Administrative Calling Card. You will also create a five-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). The PIN adds to the security of your Auth Code and is required whenever you place a long distance call from an off campus telephone.

The Administrative Calling Card is only available to current employees of The Ohio State University and is intended for business use only. See the Terms and Conditions Section for further details.

Domestic and International Rates*

Our current domestic rate is a nationwide, flat rate of 4.5¢ per minute. This low rate is in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week to any location in the 50 States from any location in the 50 States or Canada. Our international long distance rates are also in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week when calling from any location in the 50 States or Canada. There are no sign up, activation or installation fees and there are no monthly minimums when using the Administrative Calling Card or Auth Code.* Plus, after the first 30 seconds, domestic and International calls are billed in six-second increments (except calls to Mexico--which are billed in whole minutes).

*NOTE: Calls placed using the toll free access numbers (1 800 678-6147 & 1 800 652-3971) will incur a $0.55 per call access fee. Calls placed from local payphones using the 292-5500 access number will require the proper coin deposit to initiate the call. The toll free 1 800 678-6147 access number can also be used to place calls from local payphones.

Ordering an Administrative Calling Card or Auth Code

There are no install, order or activation fees when requesting an Administrative Calling Card or Auth Code. Administrative Calling Cards and/or an Auth Codes can be requested through our Administrative Web Interface (AWI) system. Administrative Calling Cards and Auth Codes can also be requested via e-mail or in writing using a #1303 Requisition form or a Micro form with the appropriate signatures. Written requests must be faxed or mailed to our office. We will need the following information to process your request:

  • Department name and address
  • Chart field information (Org#, Fund#, etc.) for each code requested
  • Number of codes needed
  • Person(s) to whom the code(s) should be assigned
  • Department fiscal contact and phone number

Administrative Calling Cards and Authorization Codes will be activated within 24 business hours of receipt of the request. A printed Administrative Calling Card and information package will be sent within five business days of your request for each card requested to the address you indicated in your order.

Creating your Personal Identification Number (PIN)

Your five-digit PIN is an added security feature and is required when placing calls from off campus locations. Your PIN is not needed when placing Auth Code calls from campus telephones.

The system prompts you to create your five-digit PIN when you place your first call from an off campus location. Use the dialing instructions on the back of your card or provided in the brochure you receive with your card to assist you in placing your first call and setting up your PIN. Once you have placed your first call and established your PIN, we recommend that you wait 24 hours (one business day) before placing another call. This will give our system time to recognize and store the PIN you created.
