Changes to the Optional Digital Channel Line-up Set for October 20
10/15/09
Ohio State administrative and residential customers on the Columbus campus with optional digital cable TV services will see a new digital channel line-up beginning Tuesday, October 20, 2009. The basic (analog) line-up for Ohio State’s Columbus campus will not change.

Time Warner Cable, the Office of the CIO's contracted cable vendor, will move to a new theme-based line-up for the digital and HD tiers in the greater Columbus area. Digital channels above 100 will now be organized by themes such as Kids & Family, Sports, Movies, News & Weather, and so on. HD channels will also move and begin on channel 1000.

The channel realignment provides digital customers with an easier way to locate similar programming. It also gives Time Warner Cable more flexibility in adding new channels and packages to the digital and HD tiers in the future.

Administrative and residential customers with optional digital services and equipment will need to reprogram certain equipment settings such as Power on Channels, Parental Controls, Favorite Channels or Reminder Timers. VCR users may need to adjust scheduled recordings. DVR customers should not lose any saved programs and future recordings should continue as scheduled; however, customers should check their scheduled recordings after the channel change occurs.

Customers with optional digital and/or HD services should also note other changes that will occur on October 20:

- HD customers will see several new HD channels that include: AMC, TCM, Headline News, Cartoon Network and the Outdoor Channel.
- Digital Variety customers will get two new channels: Daystar and Sundance.
- A new digital package, Digital Choice, will become available (for an additional fee) and include: RFD TV, NASA TV, Crime & Investigation, Military History Channel and more.

Customers can view the revised digital channel line-up for the Columbus area on Time Warner Cable’s web site (PDF format) by clicking on the More Information link below. Current digital customers can also view the new digital line-up using the on-screen guide that comes with their set-top box or DVR.

The Office of the CIO distributes and maintains cable television service to residential and administrative buildings on Ohio State’s Columbus campus. The basic (analog) channel line-up is a standard service in most undergraduate housing areas and an optional service that can be ordered from the Office of the CIO in other housing areas and administrative offices. Optional digital and HD channels and packages are available to Columbus campus customers for additional fees. Residential customers can order optional digital services directly from Time Warner Cable, while administrative customers need to order these services from the Office of the CIO, and prices may vary.

Questions regarding these changes or cable TV services should be directed to the IT Service Desk at 688-HELP (4357) or by e-mailing units@osu.edu.
